A Baby Step of Progress

At the request of Katy’s doctor, an internal medicine doctor somewhat familiar with HPS saw Katy this morning. He was able to give recommendations consistent with the Maryland doctors, mostly emphasizing the TPN IV to keep Katy’s health up. The risk is that the TPN IV requires a more substantial vein intrusion, and can cause significant bleeding (in HPS patients, this is more dangerous because of having “thin” blood). If Katy can’t get a platelet transfusion soon, he recommended risking the TPN IV anyway because she has gone so long with no nutrients (the normal IV is basically water with some sodium and potassium). Please pray that…

  • This doctor’s recommendations would push things along faster.
  • Katy’s doctor would be able to see Katy soon and make the decisions on these issues.
  • Katy would not be at risk of bleeding heavily.

    Dear Dawn and Family,

I just learned about Katy yesterday (8-10) and have been in prayer for all of you since. My heart goes out to you. I know the Lord is right in the middle of this situation and will lead you where you must go. Psalm 91 and Philippians 4:6-7 keep coming to my mind as comfort for you.

I am so sorry for the resistence from medical staff that you’re experiencing. I have been there. I found that I had to be aggressive about Jeff’s care, talking to supervisors, patient representatives, etc. to get the care he needed. I found I was not met with resentment but with concern. I am praying strongly for Katy in this area.

I pray that the TPN that she so desperately needs will be taken care of quickly.

Dawn, if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, do not hesitate to call me. [Admin note: number removed to protect commenter privacy] Thank you so much for this website for those who love you Campbells.

    In Christ - Barbara

    Katy,
I am reading a book entitled Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God by Noel Piper. Your joyful witness for our Lord Jesus could well put you within the pages. When I come to visit I’ll read portions to you! Your name comes before the throne of God often during the day. Know we love you.
