At the request of Katy’s doctor, an internal medicine doctor somewhat familiar with HPS saw Katy this morning. He was able to give recommendations consistent with the Maryland doctors, mostly emphasizing the TPN IV to keep Katy’s health up. The risk is that the TPN IV requires a more substantial vein intrusion, and can cause significant bleeding (in HPS patients, this is more dangerous because of having “thin” blood). If Katy can’t get a platelet transfusion soon, he recommended risking the TPN IV anyway because she has gone so long with no nutrients (the normal IV is basically water with some sodium and potassium). Please pray that…
- This doctor’s recommendations would push things along faster.
- Katy’s doctor would be able to see Katy soon and make the decisions on these issues.
- Katy would not be at risk of bleeding heavily.
