Tuesday Update

Katy had the best night sleep so far! She only awakened once to go to the bathroom. Mom did put a sign on the door that Katy is legally blind, and to please enter quietly and identify yourself. The nurses have been pretty good about that. It’s mostly the food delivery and garbage pickup people that hadn’t taken notice.

We’re taking some positive steps forward. More good news is that Katy gained 1 lb! The home healthcare nurse came by this morning and asked Katy if she would like to start thinking about a plan to have in place when the doctor tells her she can go home. Katy was very encouraged to think about the possibility of going home, though we don’t know when yet. It all depends on how fast she recovers.

The plans have changed a little regarding Maryland. They say she needs to be stronger and be more mobile before she goes there. Fortunately, the hospital here says she can do some of that at home!

We also want to say how much we appreciate our church and our friends. When mom and dad got home after 10 last night, they saw that Rich, Linda, and Nathan had cut their entire lawn! What a blessing!

Home, did someone say home??? That’s great news! By now you might be feeling like one day is just melting into the other and there’s no end in sight - but there is, I promise! That’s a great sign if they’re talking about springing you! Grin! More later - back to the salt mine here.

    Hey Katy,

I am sure glad that you had a good night’s sleep!! That’s a rarity in the hospital for sure GRIN It seems to me they are constantly in and out, and waking me up when I have stayed in the hospital. I went to the doc myself today, and got some really exciting news. I’ve been battling another ailment I have called pyoderma gangrenosum ( I have a habit of collecting long name diseases GRIN ) anyway, the good news is that is very much under control right now, and I have been virtually pain free from it after a 3 year long battle of pain and severe bleeding episodes!!! God is so good Katy, and I share this with you so that you know you are not alone in this fight. The thought of going home I know is very exciting, and I live close enough that if only I could drive, like Heather, I would love to visit you!!!! My husband Tommy would bring me, but right now he is working 2 jobs and going to school. We are hoping he can give the 2nd job up by Christmas, and he only has 6 more weeks of school!!!! I shared with my doc today about you, as she is a christian, and I knew she would pray for you too. I am so lucky to have doctors here who love me very deeply, and I know that when I am sick they pray for me too. I am sure that your docs will grow to love you as you seem to have the right kind of spirit about things, and that makes you quite memorable and loveable.
Take care and thanks so much for keeping us posted
May God Bless You and Keep you strong

    Katy,

Thank you so much for letting me come spend the night with you last night. I haven’t had a sleep-over in a long time. lol The nurses let us sleep some so I can still call it a sleep-over if I want. lol:) I know you will love to be able to come home soon so there won’t be any interuptions in the night. I bet you sure will feel stronger when you are allowed to sleep through the night without any pokes and prods. And so you feel better, my kids got through the night just fine and were just starting to wake up when I got home this orning. I got news, also, that Joanne should be coming home on Wednesday or Thursday. God is Good. No, God is GREAT!

WE love you Katy. Oops, I almost forgot…… Ellie sends a big wet kiss and a tail wag too.

    Our prayers are with you!

    Freddy

  4. Carrie Thompson Says:

    Dear Katy,
I am so glad you are doing better. Especially that you gained 1lb! I showed Jeb the pics of you & he was tickled with your lamb. I am continuing to pray for you.

Would you like something to smile about?

    “January 2006
Jeb and I were at the Longs’ house, because Mom & Dad were in Hawaii. One morning Jeb asked Samuel, “Sam, can you get me your monkeys?” Well, one of the monkeys made sounds when he was squeezed. And Jeb just about wore out his squeaker!! Jeb slept with the monkey, which he named Monkey Chops. At night, when Jeb rolled onto the monkey I could hear him squealing! But it didn’t wake him up. The next day Jeb got Sam’s play Nerf gun & went hunting, as Jeb said: “Mrs. Long, I’m hunting Monkey Chops. I got my bullet in my gun.”

    May 2006
Somehow Nicky & Jeb got talking about Jeb’s stuffed cows & them getting married. “So, Jeb, how do cows get married?” Nicky asked. Jeb replied without pausing, “They give big cow kisses & then they get married.”

I love you. Have a great day!

    Love,
    Carrie

Hi Katy!! It was great to see you today!! I’m so glad I was able to stop in. You looked GREAT and I enjoyed getting to talk to you. I hope you had a nice nap. :-)
Work went well today…in some ways it was good to be back, but I still like being on vacation. ;-) I’ll be praying you get to go home soon. I know that you’re longing for your own bed and room. Hang in there and I’ll come see you again soon!!
    Love, hugs, and prayers,

  6. Grandma & Granddad Says:

    Hi Katy,

We think of you and pray for you throughout each day. We are so very thankful for Colin’s updates every day. Your pictures are so beautiful and, not surprising, you are in style even in a hospital bed.

We just received a call from your uncle Dave. He and Laurel just arrived in Philadelphia, where Laurel has an interview at Drexel University tomorrow. If you recall, that is where your Dad earned his engineering degree. They will be spending tomorrow night with Nick and Sue Brussesse, longtime friends of Daves, and will be coming back here on Thursday afternoon.

Judy’s family will be coming on Thursday, bringing with them their tents and sleeping bags to do some camping for a week in our back yard, while Dave’s family are with us from Seattle. They don’t want to miss out on all the fun with our family from the West Coast, whom they only see every couple of years.

We are anxious to see you again and hope it will not be too long before we can make another trip to Roanoke.

Katy, we love you so very much and will keep you in our prayers,

    Grandma & Granddad
