Check In

Quick update - Dad & Mom checked in with Katy at UVA just minutes ago (10:30pm). I don’t know much, but apparently there were some delays, and they got on the road about 8pm or so. Also, Katy had spasms in the ambulance which I’m sure was stressful (Mom was able to go with her in the ambulance). The ambulance turned on the lights and drove faster at that point, so at least it got her there quicker! God, bless those ambulance drivers!

Please pray for quick rest for Katy, and for my parents. I’m sure they’re exhausted. My Dad said he had no idea yet what they were going to do about sleeping arrangements, but I know they need some serious sleep.

Thanks to all of you for watching this page so faithfully!

  1. Adam Thompson Says:

Praise God! I hope that all of the “nasty little details” will go smoothly…or better yet, go away. :-)

  2. Julie Wensley Says:

Yay! What a long day. Sweet dreams to all.

  3. Heather Kirkwood Says:

    Evening Katy and crew!

I’m glad everyone arrived safely. So much for looking out of windows I guess. Hopefully mom and dad will find a place to bed down for the night soon! Hospital social workers can be good sources for finding inexpensive local accomodations. Some hospitals even have hostels for relatives of patients that have to come from a long way away. I know the University of Kansas has a Ronald McDonald House, and I think there’s another one for relatives of adult patients. As always, you’re all in my prayers. I spoke with Candice and Crystal this evening and we’re all thinking of you constantly. Last night I spoke with Elsie (another HPS’er I don’t think you know yet) and she asked after you too. So did Julie (you met her at the gala) when I spoke with her Thursday night.

  5. Lael Moreland Says:

    Hello Katy and family!
We are all very grateful that you were able to get into UVA so quickly. We’re praying that mom and dad will be able to find sleep very soon, and restful sleep at that! We’re constantly thinking of you and praying. Love and hugs.

  6. Carson Kistner Says:

    Katy -

Did Aunt Julie mention something about Hokie lotion? Better not take any of THAT stuff into Wahoo Land!!
If you have any orange and navy, you’d best decorate yourself in those colors. :]

We’re praying for you and your family.

  7. Karen Tillman Says:

    Dearest Katy,

I am so thankful you arrived safely last night, and were able to endure those awful spasms, especially during the ambulance ride. I am sure it was scary. I really had a difficult time focusing in church this morning, for thinking of you, so I figured God would understand if I just took time out from the service and pray for you. You are in my thoughts quite a bit, and I will continue to uplift you and the new set of doctors to the Lord, as He has all the answers.
    Love Always

    Hey Katy Lady!
I’m so glad that you are at UVA! I’m praying that they will find a way to control the spasms and the pain quickly!

I was up in Northern Virginia this past weekend - visitng my parents. My mom is a member of the Poe’s bible study and she said that Larry Poe read your parts of your blog to the group last week. I know that they are praying for you. My mom said that she prays for you daily - she isn’t sure how to post! *grin* She’s not too savy w/ the computer!

    We love ya!

  9. Aleah Yunger Says:

We sang this song at church this morning. I don’t know if you know it, but it is beautiful! Just wanted to give you some song lyrics for you to keep praising your God. So glad He has provided for your care! Praying for you and your family.

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

  10. Linda Kochendarfer Says:

Rich and I have just returned from small group at the Ferris’ home. As you can imagine there were prayers offered up for you, your mom, dad and Paul Burton. We had a great day at your house yesterday and the flower beds are BEAUTIFUL! Your dad said you took pride in keeping them weeded; I think you would approve. I have been a patient at UVA and found the hospital, the procedures and staff well organized. I remember not having to wait for much of anything except my doctor showing up when she did rounds. Hope your family finds the same. I hope you’ll be able to read your blog comments yourself really soon. We love you and want you to know you are consistently in our hearts, minds and prayers.

  11. Patricia Hagsten Says:

We’ve returned home so I was able to catch up on your prayer needs, as we experienced server difficulties for several days while we were on the road.
Dawn and Paul….take care of yourselves. Trusting in Him relieves many burdens but there still are demands and time constraints and details….and we pray those are being smoothed out.
Katy, we’re so glad the hospital and ambulance got you to UVA so quickly. May the Great Physician comfort your soul and grant you the grace day by day.

  12. Heather Kirkwood Says:

    Hey Katy and crew!
Just checking in on you before I head off to bed. This week is a big deadline week. I pray everything is going okay and that you’re getting settled okay. I went to dinner tonight with Tina, Karen, Echo and Tina B. - all friends of mine. Three of them have posted to you before. They all asked about you first thing.

  13. Sarah Meador Says:

I’m so thankful you all were able to get checked into UVA in such a short time. God is so good. Continuing to pray for healing and comfort and that you all will rest peacefully this night. Much love to you.

Daily lifting you all before the Throne of Grace,
