Hospital Update- Seeing Improvement

Mom called from the hospital to give an update. God has mercifully given Katy 5 1/2 hours of sleep during the night. Her pain has not gone away, but her ability to cope with it has increased. Mom put her into a hot shower today and Katy started to sing in the shower. This is evidence to us that the Sovereign Lord is her strength and song. Mom read to Katy Psalm 71:20-21:

“Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.”

We see how merciful God has been, and we ask you to pray today for three specific things:

  • Katy’s liver function tests are abnormal and her skin is tinted yellow. We are praying that this is only a reaction to being dehydrated. Please pray that her liver goes back to functioning normally.
  • Pray for healing of Katy’s mouth ulcers, which haven’t healed in the past two weeks.
  • They’ve decided to put the TPN back in her arm vein rather than in her chest because it was less invasive. Once Katy is stronger, they plan to have the line put in her chest which is better but requires a longer procedure (45 minutes).

Thank you!
Colin

  4. Trisha Ferris Says:

    Try this song, Katy,
Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side.
Bear patiently thy cross of grief or pain.
    Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heavenly Friend,
Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end.

This is my prayer, O Lord of all the nations:
Your kingdom come on earth, Thy will be done.
Let Christ be lifted up till all will serve Him,
And hearts united learn to live as one.
    O, hear my prayer, the God of all the nations;
Myself I give You, let Your will be done.

    Love & Prayers,
    Trisha

  6. Terri Snyder Says:

    Dearest Katy,

I am so sorry to know your are suffering so much. How this identifies you with our Saviour, Jesus Christ, yet in even one more way. I just heard the 3rd Day song on the radio, Mountain Of God. Here are the words that make me think of your journey right now. “Even though the journey’s long, & I know it’s hard. Well the One who’s gone before me, He will help me carry on. After all that I’ve been through, now I realize the truth. That I must go through the valley to stand upon the mountain of God. As I travel on the road that you have lead me down, You are here with me. Yes, You are here with me. I have no need for nothing more. Oh, now that I have found that You are here with me. Yes, You are here with me. Sometimes I think of where it is I’ve come from & the things I’ve left behind. But of all I’ve had , what I possessed, nothing can quite compare.”

I know this is your testimony of God’s presence & power at work in your life, even now. He is being glorified & taking you to the mountain top! You are a precious young woman & knowing you has blessed my life. Thank you for woking with me on Wednesday nights with Tabbitha & for sharing your mom with me for a season. My love, my thoughts & prayers are with you & your sweet family. Thank you for letting your life be a vessle through which Jesus has shined consistantly to help other see & touch Jesus.

    Trusting Him Today,
    Terri

    Katy,
I am praying for you daily!!! We leave tomorrow for China and we were able to raise enough money to bring 10 cases of Pediasure for the kids in Lanzhou! We are also bringing approx 25 blankets for the older children. I want you to know that I am doing this in your name like we talked about. I asked you if you would like anything from China and your replied that you would like me to make a donation to the kids. Well, we are indeed!! We will actually be able to give them a little money also because we ran out of luggage room ;o)
I will continue to pray for you while in China! Many Blessings on your journey new friend!! Stay strong!

I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to check the blog for a while, so I just checked it today for the first time in a week. Even though I wasn’t consistently checking the blog, you should know that Terry and I pray for you every night. We know that God hears the prayers of his people, and He must be getting an earful each and every day on your behalf! Your spirit is strong and so is the love of your family and friends. Stay strong!

  12. April Lang Says:

    Hi My Dear Sister,
I was talking with Haley tonight and had told her about you being in the hospital this morning and asked her to pray for you. Tonight she was saying what a blessing you have been to her and she doesn’t even really know you. You are and have been such a blessing to more people than you probaby will ever know! We prayed together for you tonight and I will continue to be praying for you. You are a symbol of strength to everyone!
I long to see you my dear sister! I hope I will be able to soon!
I was reading Psalm 40 last week and a couple verses stuck out that I would like to share with you. Psalm 40:5, 17 - Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order. If I would declare and speak of them they are more than can be numbered. But I am poor and needy; yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God. Katy, the Lord is thinking about you…He knows exactly how you feel and what you are going through and remember that although we do not understand many of His ways He is still in control. He is your help and your deliver and even in your needy state He is thinking upon YOU! You are precious my friend!
Get well soon! We need to go shopping or do something fun when you get better!!!

    Love always,
    April

    P.S. Here are some smiles for you :-D , ;0), ;-D

  13. Karen Tillman Says:

    Dear Katy,

I am so very thankful that you are feeling better today. I have just been dying to catch up with you today. It was so funny, while I was serving coffee today, these guys were looking at their laptops, and I asked if they would do me a favor since I just served them coffee GRIN So, they looked you up and at that time NOTHING!!!! I was going crazy, and thanked them for looking you up. Get this, you interested them so much they started researching HPS, and so I left with a smile knowing someone else would be educated, thanks to you. I am just sry you have to be sick, in order for someone to be educated. Anyway, I sneaked a look on a hospital computer when I was supposed to be making calls around 4:30 pm, and was relieved to see Colin’s post. It is like your blog has become my lifeline to you and how you are doing. I am praying for you and obviously thinking of you often, and am so glad that you are feeling better. Take care and now I must go to be, as again your blog is the last thing I check before I go to sleep.
Good night Katy, and sleep tight, and don’t let the bedbugs bite!!! OUCH!!!!

  14. David and Lizi Says:

    Katy,
Glad to here you are sleeping a little better. We stop to see Melody Quintero this evening and one of the first things she ask was if we had heard anything about you. She has been praying regularly for you as we have.
Lizi read a passage of scripture this morning from Isaiah 40: 29-31 He givith power to the faint and to them that have no might he increaseith strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up as wings of eagles, they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk and no be faint.
    Bless you,
    David and Lizi

  15. Cecelia Says:

Katy, it’s late, but I check the blog often to read updates (thanks Uncle Dan, Colin, etal), which helps me to know how to pray. I’m weeping as I type because of the strength of God, Jesus Himself, who is with you each minute of every day. I am praying for you as I go about my daily tasks. The Lord brings you to mind when I’m supposed to be working. And, I prayed specifically for your healing & patient endurance while I was at church tonight, and for all your caregivers. Katy, I’m so burdened for you and all your family. I love you all so much. Our God is able! Please continue to trust the God Who loves you and tenderly calls you by name. I will sing a song of deliverance in the night watches for you tonight. With all my love, Cecelia (Psalms 42:8b; 63:6-8; 68:20a; 73:25-26; 103:3b, 17-18; 107
    :20a 147:3; John 10:14)

  16. Tina Jinkens Says:

Hi Katy! My name is Tina, and I am a friend of Heather Kirkwood. She sent me an HPS update via email today at work, and I said a prayer for you and couldn’t wait to get home to read your blog and send you an email. I will continue to pray for you and your family! I see all that Heather accomplishes, and it helps me keep moving in my daily tasks, and I read about your great faith and the faith of so many people who surround you, and I thank God for how He comes to us in so many unexpected ways.

    Little joke for the day!

Jesus and Satan were arguing one day about who was the best computer programmer. Finally, the Father stepped in and said, “Why don’t you have a contest to see who is the best.” So they did. They typed for hours, and suddenly, there was a bolt of lightning. When God the Father looked, Satan had nothing. Jesus had beautiful images of angels and glorious singing voices. Why, because Jesus saves!

God bless you and your family!

    In Christ’s Peace,
    Tina

  17. Heather Kirkwood Says:

HA! I’m just checking in on you Katy before I go to bed. I had a talk with Donna today, so I knew you were doing better. Tomorrow is big deadline day - so I’ve been a little busier than usual. I’m just giggling at Tina’s joke!

And Kim, good lunch in China!!!

Isn’t it funny - not only does this blog help me keep tabs on how you’re doing, but here I feel like I’m getting to know all your family and friends too!

Sleep tight! Still praying for you!

  18. Grandma & Granddad Says:

    Dear Katy,

I can’t tell you what a blessing you are to us and to others everyday. “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise”.

Yesterday at our Tinkling Belles choir practice, I shared updates about you and requested continued prayers for you. The ladies are all concerned and do pray for you. Our theme song is “Moment by Moment” and I got teary thinking about you. Since you love to sing and have others sing, I’m sending the words of the chorus. “Moment by moment I’m kept in His love; Moment by moment I’ve life from above: Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine; Moment by moment, O Lord, I am thine.”

We also sang, “All the Way My Saviour Leads Me”, and again I thought of you and how He is leading you each step of the way.

I’m sending a thought for this day: “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2

We love you and pray for you Katy and look forward to coming down to see you soon.

    Grandmom & Granddaddy
