Saturday Night March 3, 2007

Katy is looking so great. Her coloring has improved. Her eyes are much clearer when she talks to us. It has been such a wonderful day that I can only compare it to big events like the day our children arrived and other significant events in their lives. We are so relieved that this surgery went well that Paul and I came home to celebrate tonight. We had a nice dinner and plan to settle down to watch an old Cary Grant movie. Julie is spending the night at the hospital with Katy and has given us strict instructions to relax and have fun. We appreciate Julie’s nurturing touch, and know Katy will be enjoying their little “overnight visit.”

Katy has already been up and walking. She has been begging for food, but is only allowed clear liquids. She got the nurse to call her doctor twice begging for crackers and he finally gave in tonight. She was chomping saltines exclaiming how good it feels to eat without nausea. Her back pain is completely gone. Her incisions (four of them about a half-inch long) are the only twinges of pain she has tonight. She would wake up between naps and say, “I forgot what it felt like to be without pain. It feels so good!”

The prayers that have covered this day have been honored by our Lord. We know many of you invested time in prayer. We are so thankful to Him for giving us all the faith to pray without ceasing. He gave Katy the strength to fight her way back from despair. This has been a day of renewed hope and if all goes well tonight we can bring her home tomorrow. We praise the Lord tonight for His mighty acts.
