Calorie Intake: 600

Pain Level: 10

Medication change: Fentanyl 37.5 mcg

Katy went back on the dreaded Fentanyl patch in order to manage her pain. It is barely helping but she slept seven hours last night.

The surgeon has scheduled Katy for surgery at Roanoke Memorial Saturday morning 10:30 for the removal of her gall bladder. She will begin a platelet transfusion before the surgery at 8:30. She will have to stay overnight, but if all goes well she will be able to leave the hospital on Sunday. As we look back on the past four months, when she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and gall bladder problems, we are now wondering if some of her major back pain, acid reflux, esophagus inflammation, is all related. We hope and pray that this surgery may relieve some of these distressing symptoms. Thank you for your prayers.

    Dawn,

I am so glad that you posted. I think I have checked Katy’s blog at least 5 times today already. My prayer is that it will relieve all her symptoms!!! I don’t believe there is anything to big for our God, so that is how I plan to pray. And I am very excited to hear that you pushed for the platelets as Heather suggested before the surgery. I believe that will help a lot. I know for years, not knowing I had HPS, after surgery I would have to have several transfusions. If they had only known!!! Please tell Katy, I think about her almost nonstop these days, and desperately want her to be out of pain.
    Love Always

Katy, Dawn, et al, Just read Paul, Grandad’s - note about your surgery scheduled for Sat AM. About the relationships of these things, I know that acid reflux causes inflammation of the esophagus, and that gall bladder problems cause severe back pain in a certain area. Whether the four are inter-related, I don’t know. I’m glad she is getting the platelet infusion first! I believe our Lord Jesus has plans for Katy yet, and I pray that the surgery is part of the plan and will relieve many of the pain problems. I will continue praying and will put her on our prayer chain for Saturday AM.

P.S. A happy note for us! We finally brought home today - I, myself, in fact, brought home today our new Toyota LE Van - Silver pine color, a silvery light green. Its a thrill to have a new car after 8 years of odds and ends. Tony couldn’t travel far in the Subaru because he had to tip his head up and with his cervical neck problem, he needs to tip it down or he gets terrific headaches. I fell in love with a van like this in 06 - in St. Pete last March, and look, now the Lord has lovingly allowed me to have one!

  7. Rich Kochendarfer Says:

    Katy,
It’s so good to hear that you may finally get some relief through this surgery tomorrow. I had a small procedure yesterday at the Blue Ridge Surgical Center. Rich and I prayed for you while I was waiting to receive my anesthesia; I also concentrated on Psalm 121 - “I will lift my eyes to the hills from whence cometh my help.” Perhaps, these words will be a comfort to you today. You are in our thoughts and we will pray for you and your family again this evening as we meet for Bible study with Nathan and Toni-Anne.

    Love,
    Mrs. K
