Initial Meeting

Hello everyone! I am now back home and able to give you an update. I talked with Mom briefly last night before going to sleep and I just finished talking with with her this morning. Qavah was getting breakfast with Daddy, so Mom and I had a chance to catch up a bit. She’s going to call me later with more information, too.

The first day together went well. Qavah has petite features and is tall. She is joyful and loves to talk! Qavah’s blood count was checked yesterday morning and the results showed she needed her monthly transfusion before leaving Louisiana. So, when I called Mom last night, she was actually at the hospital. The foster mom and other children needed to return home, so Dad and Mom stayed at the hospital with Qavah. After the transfusion finished up around midnight, they were able to take Qavah back to the hotel with them. Today, the plan was to return to the foster family’s home to get the last of the Qavah’s things and attend a “good-bye” party. Tomorrow, Dad and Mom sign papers with the social worker and then they’ll begin the trip home. Their desire is to drive halfway, but they are staying flexible with their plans.

I will be spending the day doing schoolwork and I have a piano lesson this afternoon. Tonight, Fairlight is visiting. She has several adopted siblings from the foster-care system, so her insight and prayers have been quite a blessing to me.

  2. Carrie Thompson Says:

    Hi Katy,

How exciting! Soon Qavah will be meeting her new siblings! :-) The Lord has answered our prayers.

  3. Sandy Says:

What a nice report! The “joyful and loves to talk” description sounds so lovely and wonderful! I can’t wait to hear more about Qavah and the adventures you all will have together.

  4. Ib & Patricia Says:

What an adventure for your folks … too bad, you weren’t able to travel that far … but then, bonding with them first takes higher priority. You are, after all an adult, and may soon “fly the home coop!”

I’ve wondered what condition causes Qavah to need monthly transfusions … but earlier I though it obtrusive to ask … on the other hand, so everybody can add her in specific ways to prayer time … with what long-term situation is she dealing, healthwise, if you think it’s appropriate to share.

We’re sorta nearby over Labor Day … last night after being home in Kansas City only 15 hours, following our 3,000 marathon ending at 3 a.m. yeterday morning, we hopped a flight to Baltimore last night to spend a few days with Ellen. Golly…the last time we were here at Christmas, do you remember Ellen and me jaunting together one day to visit you in the Roanoke Hospital? (Quality mother-daughter time for us!)

Ib conducts orgaic inspections on farms, in processing plants, feed mills, warehouses, etc. on these long marathons. Sometimes he flies. The past 9 days we drove through MO, KS, NE, SD, ND, and all over MN before coming home through IA.

Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend together as a new, enlarged family!

  5. Lillian Oliveira Says:

Yes, I have tears in my eyes again, reading of dear little Qavah’s first experience with her new and forever Mama and Daddy. I’m sure Dawn knew all kinds of things to do with her at the hospital - she has so much experience!! Its good she just had her transfusion, she will be strong for the trip and for her first days at home. Oh, wonderful! I bet everybody that reads this would love to be able to peek in and watch it happen! Her big house, her special bedroom with new toys, her big lawn and swings, the creek for wading, her big sisters and brothers! I hope someone has a video cam. to catch some of it. You all have been constantly in my thoughts and prayers this week. Much love, Aunt Lil

  6. Aleah Yunger Says:
