The Close of the Day

The work of the day is over.  I had several errands to run before noon and the girls had a couple of medical appointments.  After tending to those things, we went grocery shopping and came home to straighten and fix dinner.  At the close of the day, a cool refreshing wind has started to pick up out of the north and the house is cooling off.  We have the Lord to thank for this perfect air conditioning. Our bedroom curtains are caught up in the breeze like dancers in flowing white gowns.  The night air is perfumed with the fragrance of honeysuckle and I have a feeling that we are all going to have a very lovely night of sleep.

I am humming and remembering a song my Grandmother used to sing before going to bed.  I hope I recall the words correctly.

Now the day is over;
night is drawing nigh.
Shadows of the evening
steal across the sky.

Jesus give the weary
calm and sweet repose.
With thy tenderest blessing,
may my eyelids close.
(Thank you to my friend Patricia, who found this on the internet.  Enjoy!)
